Some Holiday Shopping

So I went to Portsmouth, NH yesterday. To anyone who is not familiar, Portsmouth is a little quaint town settled in the 1600s. Home to Strawberry Banke and other attractions, it isn't overrun by strip malls or anything. The downtown is really pretty and has many little stores and small businesses.

I thought I'd share just some of the things I've bought.

Bought some ornaments for my cousin and his wife, who just had twin boys this summer. A veggie cookbook for my aunt and uncle, a gag-gift for Tyler (Mustache Grower's Guide... hehe), some stocking stuffer notepads, and a stamp set and magnet set for myself ... I couldn't resist!

Did you do any shopping this weekend? What did you buy? Let me know in the comments!

Small Business Saturday

Instead of lugging myself out of bed in the wee hours this morning, I slept in while millions of Americans rushed to Walmart, Target, and huge commercialized stores to stock up on toys and electronics. In years past I might have ventured out with my mom, (who came home at 11am this morning with about twenty $5 movies from Walmart) but for the last 4ish years or so, I've been just focusing my efforts on online shopping instead.

Although I can't remember if this was a "thing" in previous years, tomorrow (Saturday) has been dubbed "Small Business Saturday." I love the idea, if anything because as a photographer, selling prints puts me in the "small business" category. Tomorrow I will definitely be surfing my favorite Etsy shops and small businesses that have online stores. I thought I'd share some of my favorites who make perfect Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers! So with out much further ado...

My Top 6 Favorite Etsy Shops for This Christmas Season

Circle the Square: For all the antique hunters at heart, Circle the Square sells thrifted and vintage finds of all kinds. Most are decor for the house, but nonetheless this shop has some really golden finds. Prices are reasonable as well!

Peggy Skemp Jewelry: I know talent when I see it, and Peggy's pieces are beautifully crafted. A little on the pricey side, but obviously worth it. I love her subject matter of aquatic tentacles and anatomical structures -- right up my alley! I may have to indulge in a tentacle ring after Christmas...

The Dainty Squid: I originally found her blog, and stumbled across her Etsy page soon after. I love the little clutches and pouches, especially the vibrant one-of-a-kinds that she offers. She also sells some cute accessories. Looks like there's a Black Friday discount as well: Use coupon code "BLKFRI" for 15% off your purchase!

Berkley Illustration: Great for your far-out friends and pet lovers. These prints are awesome and so fun! I recently bought one to hang above Creed's (my hedgehog) cage and it makes him seem so dignified. What I also must say is that it was mailed so nicely and wasn't bent in the slightest. I really think I need to buy one of the new totes for someone in my family.

Counter Couture: These silkscreeners really know what's up! I am so in love with their Scrabble pillows, I might die. And if you have any babies in the family, they baby-wear and onsies are so unique and different from anything you could buy at mainstream retail stores. I'm positive you could find things for any member of your family at this little shop. Use the code BLACKFRIDAY through the end of November to receive 15% off!

Blithe Gardens: Last but not least on the list is Blithe Gardens, which I think holds the cutest little terrariums money can buy. Add a little green to your home with a handblown glass orbs of plants! A little pricey, but they are so irresistible.
So for the next few days, I think I'll be shopping from the little guys. For now I'm going to sit back, keep my PJs on, and shop from the comfort of my own home. Take a look at the shops and tell me what you think. I'm also curious in your favorites, so let me know in the comments!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Atleast at my house, Thanksgiving usually is a low-key event. A few relatives, usually my uncle, aunt, and grandmother head up to my parents house and spend the day. I usually spend Thanksgiving break relaxing from the super busy semester. I thought I'd look nice today, and after going shopping last week I knew exactly what to wear!

Dress: H&M
Stockings: CVS
Shoes: Marshalls
Necklace: Forever 21
Jacket: original GAP, but found thrifting

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of your Thanksgiving night!

Switching Gears

The thing about blogs is that I have a terrible habit of keeping up with them. I made this blog at the beginning of the year not only as an English project, but as a place where I could legitimate start something. Unfortunately, school work got ahead of me. It's for this reason I think I'm going to be redirecting this blog into a more personal direction. I had hoped it'd be about my practice as a photographer, but I really have so many interests that I think I may include fashion, obsessions, art, personal posts, and use photography as grounding.

I realize I have about -zero- followers now, but just you wait, I won't disappoint!
